The SMART Walker is the latest development
in gait training devices.
The device provides a means of hands-free upright mobility and gait training for children with cerebral palsy or similar conditions that otherwise would not be able to walk.
The SMART Walker was developed since there was a lack of equipment available to safely and effectively meet the needs of the child with cerebral palsy or similar medical conditions to learn to stand and ambulate with hands-free support. The device is comprised of two main components, an orthosis or brace that fits around the child's pelvis and lower limbs, and a sturdy wheeled frame.
To make use of the device, the child is placed in the
brace component which is then secured in the wheeled frame to a support attachment. The support mechanism provides the child with a regulated amount of lift support.

Additional components combined with special features of the device allow
customization of the ambulation parameters for each child. This provides the child with gait guidance and allows them to learn to walk and explore their environment like they
never could before.
